Good News For Coeliac Kids AND Their Parents . . . Delicious Burgers And Sausages Are Back On The Menu

Coeliac Kids enjoying beefburgers from Westin GourmetIt’s fair to say that for many kids, burgers and sausage are very often part of their staple diet when growing up. Nothing wrong with that, as long as they are quality products and are part of a nutritious diet.

However, next time you tuck into your favourite burger or tasty sausage, spare a thought for the kids who have to miss out on these.

There are approximately 125,000 people in the UK known to have coeliac disease, an allergy to gluten, (a protein found in wheat, barley, rye and oats), which drastically limits what the sufferer can eat. (Sausages and burgers included).

For many parents, Juvela is their gluten-free brand of choice. With nearly 20 years of expertise in making high quality, nutritionally sound, staple gluten-free foods, we always make taste our top priority! We recognise the important role our foods play in helping your children have an enjoyable, balanced gluten-free diet.

Juvela supports dieticians

We regularly attend coeliac clinics and after speaking with many parents and children, we were the first manufacturer to recognise the need to have a child-friendly resource that dietitans could share with children to help them better understand their condition. Our booklet 'I have coeliac disease' is specifically aimed at explaining coeliac disease to a child and has been approved by the British Dietetic Association. It is also a great resource to give to family, friends, teachers and nursery staff. Download A guide for children with gluten intolerance

Enjoying everyday favourites

Our home economist is dedicated to ensuring that being on a gluten-free diet doesn't mean missing out on all those favourites that children enjoy and works hard to find quick and fun recipe ideas that children can make for themselves. Stevia a natural sweetener

stevia_natural_sweetenerStevia is part of the sunflower family and is also known as sweet leaf or sugar leaf. Stevia can be used as a sweetener or sugar substitute in a wide variety of food.

Not yet licensed in the UK, is it worth considering as a natural sweetener for our foods?

A natural sweetener

Stevia leaves can be 30 times sweeter than sugar, 250-300 times sweeter than sucrose and is completely natural. Stevia's sweet glycosides (the sweet taste) cannot be digested so have no calories. Stevia makes no difference on the blood sugar leels so can be used by diabetics too!

Amy's Kitchen Launches In the UK

Amy's Kitchen Gluten Free, Vegetarian & Organic Rady MealsAmy's Kitchen launched their delicious organic, vegetarian and gluten free food range into Asda and Sainsbury's in April 2011. Andy and Rachel Berliner, founders of Amy's Kitchen (named after the birth of their daughter in 1987) are strong believers in fresh organic meals.

Amy's Kitchen is dedicated to quality food so for us Mums and Dads on the run, are these ready frozen meals, what we need to offer our kids as a quick meal option with all the nutritional value we would expect from our own cooking?

Organic, Vegetarian, Gluten Free & Convienient

These frozen meals are ready to oven bake or microwave and use quality organic ingredients grown without pesticides, fats are used sparingly, all are vegetarian and egg free.

Amy's Kitchen Bean Burrito Gluten Free & Vegetarian

Andy says, "we’d been vegetarians for 20 years before Amy came along and suddenly there was no time to shop and prepare for the garden-fresh, organic vegetable meals we loved.  We knew we weren’t the only family in that position."

Rachel adds, "everyone it seems appreciates great tasting food that’s simple to prepare… what matters to most people is not that our food is vegetarian, or that it’s made from organic ingredients, but that we offer quality, convenience and great taste.  We are so excited that we are now able to bring our food to the UK audience, who we are confident will love it as much as our customers and friends in the states have since 1987."
